Frequently Asked Questions

Most clients return every four-to-eight weeks depending on hair growth rate and desired neatness. We assess new growth length and slippage at each appointment to recommend an ideal schedule that preserves loc integrity and reduces tension or breakage.
Shampoo is not included in the standard retightening service unless you book a scalp wash add-on. We recommend shampooing before or adding the wash for extra cleanliness and maximum loc freshness.
Appointment length varies with loc quantity and new growth amount; expect anywhere from 45 minutes for small touch-ups to several hours for dense or long microlocs. We provide an estimated time when you book based on your hair's condition.
If tightened excessively, microloc maintenance can stress roots and lead to breakage or discomfort. Our stylists use tension-controlled techniques and assess your scalp sensitivity to avoid overtightening while still securing new growth safely.
Retightening maintains root neatness without altering the core thickness of established microlocs. Some shaping or slight tightening may make locs look fresher, but significant thickness changes result from cutting, adding extensions, or long-term natural maturation.
Arrive with dry hair unless you've booked a wash; detangle loose ends gently and remove heavy oils or products. Bring reference photos and communicate any sensitivity or tension concerns so we can tailor the retightening approach to your needs.
