Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to common questions about Interlock Maintenance.

Most clients book interlock maintenance every 4–8 weeks depending on hair growth, scalp health, and desired neatness. Those who wash frequently or want longer-lasting tightening may prefer a 4–6 week schedule. We’ll advise a personalized timeline at consultation.

When performed by a skilled stylist with proper tension and technique, interlocking is safe and low-risk. Avoid overly tight sessions and report scalp tenderness. Regular maintenance and professional care prevent undue stress on roots.

Shampoo is not included unless booked separately, and we generally recommend waiting 24–48 hours before a full wash to allow the interlocks to settle. If immediate washing is needed, book the maintenance-plus-wash option.

Yes — interlocking can be adapted for both starter and mature locs. For new locs we use gentler technique; for mature locs we focus on root tightening and longevity. A consultation determines the best approach for your stage.

Appointment length varies by loc size, density, and length. Most sessions run between 45 minutes and 3 hours. We allocate time based on your hair’s needs and provide an estimated duration when you book.

Shampoo is not included with standard interlock maintenance and must be added when booking. If you plan to wash, choose the maintenance-plus-shampoo option so we can properly cleanse and style after interlocking.
