Get answers to common questions about Interlock Maintenance.
We recommend scheduling Interlock Maintenance every 4–8 weeks depending on hair texture, growth rate, and desired neatness. Shorter intervals maintain a tighter root; longer intervals are possible for slower growth. Your stylist will advise on a personalized timeline.
When performed with proper technique and gentle tension, Interlock Maintenance should not make locs thinner or cause breakage. Communicate concerns with your stylist; spacing appointments and avoiding excessive pulling reduces risk and preserves loc thickness.
Shampoo is not included with Interlock Maintenance unless booked as an add-on. If you’d like washing, please select the shampoo service when booking or inform us so we can allocate extra time and suitable products.
Appointment length varies by loc size, density and scalp condition. Most Interlock Maintenance sessions take 45 to 120 minutes. Extensions or heavy build-up may increase time; your stylist will provide an estimated duration during booking.
Because shampooing is separate, arrive with clean, dry hair or book the wash add-on. Interlocking works best on dry or nearly dry hair for secure locking; wet hair can stretch and affect results.
Interlocking can be performed with extensions, but techniques differ. Inform us ahead if you have added hair; we’ll assess attachment methods, recommend care, and may charge extra time or fee to protect both natural locs and extensions.
